Frida Rodgerette Kahlo Necklace
Sam’s series of Rodgers centre around black skull carvings, which he tweaks until he is happy with its particular expression and character. Sam has painstakingly hand carved Frida Rodgerette's skull in Siberian Jet, until her expression and character was just right. We love the addition of the cheekily sparkling demantoid garnets for eyes that just capture her bold spirit so well.
The striking Frida Rodgerette Kahlo necklace is a combination of repurposed antique items, reclaimed antique gems and Sam’s creativity and craftsmanship. Her colourful headband is fabricated in 18 karat gold and sports brightly coloured carved flowers made in cornelian, iolite and chalcedony. Each one is secured by dainty antique gilded and enamelled flowers.
Every Rodger requires clever solutions to marry the different elements and we love Sam's use of diamond set antique bails to create maximum freedom of movement in this necklace.
Frida Rodgerette's body is a repurposed original Art Nouveau pendant made by Jewellery House Child and Childs. Much of the original brightly coloured vitreous enamel is intact and adds a pop of colour to the fluid feminine lines of the frame. We love that every little rose-cut diamond swings freely in the lattice work, as does the natural pearl suspended from the pendant - each element adding to the overall flamboyant nature of this necklace.
