Sam Lafford is a Dublin-based fine jewellery designer and goldsmith whose work bridges heritage craftsmanship with contemporary design innovation. Known for his storytelling approach to jewellery, he creates pieces that combine historical reference, salvaged materials, and sculptural form.

Working from his studio in Dublin, Sam brings over two decades of experience in goldsmithing, conservation, and bespoke design to a practice that is both technically precise and deeply expressive.

A Goldsmith Rooted in Craft and Storytelling

Born in Africa into a family of makers, Sam Lafford trained in traditional goldsmithing before developing his own distinctive contemporary practice. With a background in engineering and antique jewellery restoration, his work reflects a rare balance of technical skill and creative interpretation. His design philosophy centres on a simple idea: Jewellery should carry meaning — personal, historical, and emotional.

Salvaged Materials & Antique Diamonds

A defining feature of Sam Lafford’s work is his use of repurposed materials and antique gemstones. Rather than sourcing new stones exclusively, he often works with:

  • salvaged diamonds and gemstones
  • restored antique jewellery components
  • period-cut diamonds with historical character

This approach allows each piece to carry a sense of history and continuity, transforming existing materials into contemporary heirlooms.

Signature Collections: From Rebellion to Heritage

Sam’s work is expressed through distinct collections, each exploring a different aspect of storytelling through jewellery.

Jolly Rogers A bold and expressive collection inspired by Victorian motifs and Dadaist playfulness. These pieces are sculptural, unexpected, and designed as wearable objects with attitude.

Leading Lights A more architectural collection inspired by Dublin’s urban landscape, particularly the historic Five Lamps. These designs focus on symmetry, structure, and refined diamond settings.

Grá A deeply personal collection exploring Irish identity, love, and heritage. Crafted in gold and set with heart-shaped diamonds and salvaged stones, Grá represents modern heirloom jewellery at its most intimate.
