Description

The bright orange Mexican Fire Opal at the centre of this design lead Christina to research ancient Mayan hieroglyphs for inspiration. The Mayas called fire opal the “stone of the bird of paradise” or Quetzalitzlipyollitli and today it is still considered Mexico’s national gem. As the Mayan name is a bit of a tongue-twister she decided to call this piece Fuego Mexicano instead.

In her design she borrows the flowing rounded curves and fine dots from the ancient Mayan hieroglyphs. We see them in the bezels of the natural white zircons, the fine round claws of the fire opal, and the way all elements are rounded and flow into one another.

The reversible clasp is made in 18k white gold. It features a 23.15ct fire opal from Constantin Wild, and 4.4 carats of natural white zircons.

She’s used an interchangeable clasp system, which allows the wearer to reverse the clasp, but also place it on an entirely different necklace. Although we have to say we do love the dramatic effect of this clasp with the deep black and gently sparkling ray-skin cord that comes with this piece.
