Description

Circa 1860-1880: A beautiful late Victorian mourning brooch with feminine detailing – the undulating skirt embellished with black enamel, as was typical of the time. Delicate engraving of floral patterns lightens the mood of this otherwise austere jewel. The central agate is embellished with a “star” of silver and minute rose-cut diamonds. This layered three-dimensional brooch would look formidable on a coat lapel. But the joy of Victorian jewellery is its versatility – this brooch still has its original swan-neck for attaching a second decorative jewel for dramatic effect or add a bail and wear it on a substantial gold chain.
