The jewellery world is a-twitter with BBC's latest reality show All That Glitters: Britain's Next Jewellery Star. Some people love the show because it gives a window into the world of the jewellery maker, explaining techniques and tools to a wide audience. Others hate the unrealistic time frames and limited briefs, fearing that they will give the public the idea that a bespoke commission is something the goldsmith draws out of the hat in half a days work (where 4-6 weeks is more like it in real life).

We are simply impressed with the performance of participants so far. They complete two challenging projects each episode - one "best seller" and one bespoke piece for a client. The first episode saw the contestants designing and making three bangles in the space of 3 hours. In episode 2 they have 5 hours to complete a neck-chain. That's breakneck speed from a goldsmithing point of view!

Considering the complaints above and of course the scrutiny of the cameras and judges as they work, it is amazing what they have produced. With plenty of characters to root for we highly recommend binge-watching the replays of this reality show! It's called "All That Glitters: Britain's Next Jewellery Star."
